Repairing teeth and enhancing their appearance
Our teeth are very durable, but accidents can happen. Chips and cracks are very common, on the other hand you can grind your teeth down due to grinding and clenching due to various reasons, one of which is stress. These situations require dental work to protect the tooth/teeth and prevent any further issues. Dental composite, the material used to create white fillings, can also be used in the front teeth to repair damage and cover up issues.
Porcelain or composite veneers are also effective in covering up damage. As they promise a full cover up, veneers can be used in combination to create a new smile. They are very versatile, able to add shape, fill in gaps and cover up discoloured teeth.
What is composite bonding?
Dental composite is a special resin that contains plastic and glass, mimicking the texture and appearance of enamel when polished to a shine. Composite can be colour matched to your natural teeth, making it blend in perfectly.
Composite can be bonded directly to the tooth so there is no need to remove any of the tooth in order to accommodate the restoration. It is added in layers, building the shape up to then harden it under a UV light. The tooth is then polished, leaving a beautifully restored tooth.
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin shells that fit over the front surface of the tooth, enhancing their appearance and offering a full cover up. Porcelain veneers are custom-made using digital scans of your teeth. A very small amount of enamel may need to be removed to accommodate the veneer. It will then just fit onto the tooth, enhancing the appearance.
As porcelain is semi-translucent, it mimics how enamel interacts with light, making it a highly aesthetic choice for restorations. The porcelain is also colour-matched for the best finish.
Whitening smiles to bring back those pearly whites
Our teeth naturally darken with time. As we age, our teeth pick up stains from what we eat and drink. The white enamel gradually wears away with time, revealing the more yellow dentin underneath. Tooth whitening uses a safe chemical reaction that causes stain molecules to break down, brightening your teeth and leaving them whiter in colour.
Dr Devang can use digital scanning technology to create custom-made whitening trays. These can be worn at home during the night. All you have to do is add in the whitening gel and then wear the trays as you sleep. The whitening gel will be hard at work, gently lifting away stains. After two weeks, your smile will be where you want it to be.
